A 45-year-old woman from Latur died after falling off a crowded Navi Mumbai-bound train at around 8.45 a.m. near Airoli on Monday.

Anita Gurupadappa Badihaveli was a resident of Malad and worked in a firm in Borivali. She had returned from her home town in Latur after celebrating Diwali and was heading to Navi Mumbai to meet a relative when the accident took place.

An official of the Government Railway Police in Vashi said, “She was to join work on Monday, but she called her workplace from Thane station and said she needed the day off. She then boarded the train from Thane, which was crowded as it was peak hour.

“When the train was passing through Airoli, she fell off the train. A team reached the spot after being informed about the incident. She wad declared dead on arrival at the hospital.”

The official said Badihaveli’s Aadhaar card and mobile phone revealed her identity. “She stayed alone in Malad and had gone to visit her family in Latur. Her family will be reaching the city on Tuesday,” said the official.
