After a video of a man washing carrots with his legs went viral on social media, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) cracked down on unhygienic practices in the Dadar market, where the incident occurred. It slapped fines and notices on vendors who did not maintain requisite cleanliness in their shops.

In the video, the man is seen sitting on the edge of a drum filled with water and carrots, which he is washing using his legs. After the video surfaced, the BMC’s markets department issued a statement on Wednesday stating that the incident occurred in Krantisinh Nana Patil municipal market in Dadar on August 12.

After the incident, it slapped a ₹1000 fine on four vendors on August 13, on seven vendors on August 14 and issued notices to several others. The BMC also confiscated 20 drums from the market and said it has stopped the practice.
