The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has detected leakages at three points in pipelines in Charkop.

The Hindu had on Friday reported about residents of Sector 8 at Charkop in Kandivali falling sick due to flow of contaminated water after sewage water had mixed with drinking water.

The locality is expected to get clean drinking water in the next two days.

Residents said that the water quality today had already shown remarkable improvement. “Today the water was clear and did not smell bad as earlier. However, we have been told to continue taking precautions for another two days” said Mili Shetty, chief co-ordinator of the Charkop Sector 8 Vikas Samiti.

“The flushing out (of dirt) from water lines is complete. Three leaks have been detected in pipelines by dropping cameras underground on Saturday. We will repair it so well that we won’t have to look at it for another decade,” said Ashok Ghadge, assistant engineer of the Hydraulic Engineering Department of the BMC.
