The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has asked the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to submit a detailed report on the Kamala Mills fire that claimed 14 lives on December 29.

The report has been sought following a complaint lodged by activist Vivekanand D. Gupta. The SHRC has written to BMC commissioner Ajoy Mehta asking him to submit a report by January 29.

The incident also prompted the BMC to launch a four-day drive to demolish all illegal constructions and structures in hotels, restaurants and eateries in around 700 locations across the city.

The drive has since been halted and all outlets have been given two weeks to demolish illegal structures. So far, the police have arrested two managers and two relatives of the owner of the 1Above pub, where the fire allegedly broke out.

A lookout notice has been issued for the owner-partners of Sigrid Ospitalita Kripesh Sanghavi, Jigar Sanghavi and Abhijit Mankar. The owners of Mojo’s Bistro have also been booked.
