The Juhu police have arrested a pub owner for allegedly stalking and sending obscene content to a woman doctor over the course of the past two months.

According to the Juhu police, the accused has been identified as Dhananjay Shetty. The police said that the accused met the complainant on a social networking platform and they started chatting frequently.

“During the course of their interactions, the accused sent some objectionable messages to the complainant, after which she told him that she did not want to speak to him anymore,” an officer with the Juhu police said. Mr. Shetty, however, continued to harass the complainant despite her repeatedly telling him to leave her alone. Over the next several weeks, he allegedly sent her numerous messages, some of which were obscene in nature.

After giving him several warnings, the complainant finally approached the Juhu police and submitted screenshots of the chat conversations to the police. Based on the screenshots and the victim’s statement, the police registered an FIR on Thursday morning.

“Mr. Shetty was picked up from his pub in Juhu on Thursday evening and placed under arrest. He has been charged with stalking and outraging a woman’s modesty under the Indian Penal Code along with relevant sections of the Information Technology Act,” the officer said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone IX) Paramjit Singh Dahiya confirmed Mr. Shetty’s arrest but declined to go into the details of the case.
