The police on Thursday said they were probing a tweet that purportedly triggered a bomb scare on a Mumbai-Dubai Jet Airways flight forcing it to make an emergency landing in Muscat.

The tweet posted from the handle @PartapSurinder run by someone identifying himself as Surinder Partap from Ludhiana said: “Bomb spotted in #JetAirways 9W-536 from Mumbai to Dubai dep. At 12:25 from CSIA...... #OperationBadla”

Plane searched

Following this, the Jet Airways and the Air Traffic Control diverted the flight to Oman’s capital.

This was followed by an evacuation of the aircraft and search by security officers there. However, no bomb was found.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection) Dhananjay Kulkarni confirmed that a preliminary probe had been initiated.

Speaking to The Hindu , he said that the person posting the hoax tweet had not been traced till Thursday evening.

On the possibility of a case being registered, he said it could be decided only after the probe was over. The Cyber Cell of the Mumbai Police is investigating.
