Petition against Dutt’s release

January 08, 2016 01:01 am | Updated September 22, 2016 10:44 pm IST - Mumbai:

A day after the jail superintendent of Yerwada prison decided to let actor Sanjay Dutt out on ‘good conduct’, a petition was filed at the Bombay High Court to restrain his release.

Mr Dutt is set to walk free on February 27, nearly 103 days before the end of his term. The actor was sentenced to five years in jail in the 1993 bomb blasts case.

The petition to restrain his release was filed on Thursday by the chairperson of Samajik Karyakarta Saurakhan Samiti, Pradeep Bhalekar. The petition alleges that Mr Dutt is getting a special treatment and points out that there are 27,740 others prisoners in the State who deserve to be released on the same grounds.
