The body of a 58-year-old woman who fell off the Vaitrana railway bridge last week was recovered from Arnala on Monday after a coastal security guard spotted Baby Bhoir’s body near the Mamachiwadi resort around 11 a.m.

Police inspector Apasaheb Lengare from the Arnala police said, “The Virar police had informed us about the missing body and we had alerted coastal guards. We got a call from a guard who was on patrol duty after he found the body. We handed over the body to the family after they identified it.”

Residents of Wadhiv village are outraged, and said Bhoir was the fourth person to die this year due to gaps in the sheets on the bridge. They said several villagers lose their lives every year due to the poor state of the British-era bridge, which is the only link of the island village to the mainland. As per Census 2011, the village has a population of 772.
