Mumbai: The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) results have thrown up many success stories. One of them is that of Navi Mumbai resident Anurag Thombre, who, despite being afflicted with cerebral palsy, scored 63.5%.

A student of Mahatma School of Academics and Sports, Mr. Thombre was diagnosed with the disorder when he was three months old. Earlier this year, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education allowed him to type out his answers on a laptop. He chose to keying in himself instead of getting a writer. “I had to study a lot. But it was fun typing out my papers,” Mr. Thombre said.

Simrita Janakiraman from PACE Junior Science College, Andheri, was among the top scorers in Mumbai with 96.92%. “I had never thought about the outcome while preparing for the exams. I just focused on putting in the effort. Though I had told my parents I would score somewhere in the 90s, I didn’t expect to score so high,” she said. She has already written the entrance exam for engineering and is awaiting the results.

The total pass percentage in Maharashtra this year is 88.41%. While 14,16,986 students appeared for the examinations, 12,52,817 passed. Compared to last year, the pass percentage dropped by 1.09% this year.
