A 31-year-old Virar resident, Zoheb Sultan Merchant, lost his life in a bike mishap near Vasai on Sunday morning. The incident occurred in Charoti, ahead of Boisar bridge on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad national highway.

Merchant, who is said to have been a part of a rider’s group, was rushed to Highway Hospital in Virar soon after the incident, where he was declared dead on arrival. “The patient was brought in the morning. He had chest trauma, head injury and lung damage, because of which his breathing had stopped,” said Nilesh Bhoir from the Highway Hospital.

A police official from Virar Police Station said the incident occurred between 9.30 and 10 a.m. “We received a call from the hospital when the deceased was brought in. After the post mortem and identification was completed, we registered a zero FIR and sent the documents to Kasa Police Station, as the area of incident falls in their jurisdiction,” he said.
