Mirugandanathi Dam opens for irrigation

To improve storage level in 17 tanks

Water was released from Mirugandanathi Dam in Kalasapakkam taluk to irrigate 3,190.96 acres of ayacut on Friday.

Sevvoor S. Ramachandran, Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments released the water from the reservoir. Collector K.S. Kandasamy was present.

According to a press release, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami had ordered the release of water from the dam following requests from farmers. Water will be released for six days till May 9 to improve the storage levels in 17 tanks. A total of 41.472 mcft of water will be released at the rate of 80 cusecs. Presently, the dam’s storage capacity is 47.880 mcft as against its full storage capacity of 87.23 mcft. Around 5,000 farmers will benefit from the water release.
