The Nadapuram Judicial First Class Magistrate Court on Friday remanded in judicial custody a woman and her mother along with a migrant worker from West Bengal on charge of murdering the woman’s husband at Mokeri in Kuttiyadi.
Girija Sreedharan, 36, and her mother Baby, 60, along with Parimal Kumar, 45, were arrested after the police exhumed the body of Meethal Sreedharan on Thursday following suspicion that he was murdered and had not died of natural causes as had been claimed by his wife and mother-in-law.
Hasty burial
The hasty burial of the body, claiming Sreedharan’s death to be a case of cardiac arrest, kindled suspicion among some neighbours who took up the matter with the Kuttiyadi police.
They also expressed suspicion over some strange marks on the body of the victim.
The police said Girija was in love with Parimal who came to the region nearly six months ago for some construction work.
The murder was allegedly executed by him with the support of Girija, who also forced her mother to join the plot.
All three were charged under Section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code. Circle Inspector T. Sajeevan, who led the probe, said the three would be taken into police custody again for further investigation.
Post-mortem
Their arrest was recorded on the basis of the primary statement given by the doctor who conducted the post-mortem examination of the exhumed body, he said.
