Kerala Congress (Jacob) leader and MLA Anoop Jacob has flayed the State government for stopping the distribution of sugar through ration shops by claiming that the Centre had withdrawn sugar subsidy to the State.

At a news conference here on Tuesday, the former Civil Supplies Minister said the State government’s decision had affected thousands of people availing benefits through the public distribution system. The social auditing carried out for renewal of ration cards was a farce, he said.

Mr. Jacob said the lack of coordination among government departments had resulted in the failure of the Left Democratic Front government. Figures showed that the total electrification declaration of the government was a sham, he alleged.

He also said that consumer courts in the State had ceased to function for the last one year. The vacancies had not been filled till now.
