Karnataka Police to further probe the case

The police are yet to trace the city youth who went missing in Karnataka during his solo motorbike ride a week ago.

Two policemen from Nallalam station who joined the Karnataka Police for search operations at suspected locations returned on Monday.

The Nallalam police said they had handed over the recently traced Call Detail Records (CDR) of S. Sandeep, the missing youth, to the Karnataka Police. The search conducted at N.R. Pura and surrounding locations in Chikkamangaluru could not produce any clues, they said. Though some local informers of the Karnataka Police hinted at possibilities of abduction by highwaymen, the investigation team is yet to get any clear evidence to probe that angle.

Moreover, the cruiser motorbike and some other valuables of the youth had been found abandoned along the road, prima facie ruling out the scope of a robbery attempt.

It was on November 24 that Sandeep, who was working as a marketing manager with a private advertising firm in the city, left for Shivamogga. The missing case came to light when his family members approached the Nallalam police station the following day with a complaint that he was responding to phone calls. On November 25 , the police traced his bike and started their search. An officer at the Nallalam station said the case would be investigated further by the Karnataka Police as the place of occurrence was under their jurisdiction.

At the same time, he hinted that the city police would carry out a separate probe to collect possible inputs from Sandeep’s friends to support the investigation.

Meanwhile, Filsher Chemmadan, a colleague of Sandeep, said the investigation by the Karnataka Police was satisfactory, and that they could even seek local support to trace him. “What we want is a similar approach from the Kerala Police. Sandeep’s family has already demanded the formation of a special squad by the Kerala Police to intensify the search,” he said.
