Girl’s death: police arrest youth

She was found dead in her house on March 23

After a two-week-long investigation, the police have arrested a 27-year-old man for suspected abetment of suicide by an 18-year-old girl from Puthuppady. According to the police, P.K. Afnas of Adivaram had sexually abused the girl after a fake marriage ceremony.

It was on March 23 that the girl was found dead in her house. The police said she had taken the extreme step after coming to know about his marital relation with another woman. It was found that the youth had sexually abused her at various locations in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Earlier, the girl’s family had accused the police of cold-shouldering the investigation. According to her relatives, the girl had filed a petition with the Thamarassery police citing sexual exploitation by the youth. Moreover, the youth had attempted to endanger her life several times, they said.

Meanwhile, the police said the arrest of the accused was recorded last Tuesday. He had been absconding after the incident. They also claimed that efforts were on to trace him.
