Adding to the long list of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders who openly threaten the police and the Opposition parties, a leader of the party’s students’ wing from State’s Bardhaman district publicly threatened to blow up a police station on Tuesday.
The threat issued by Soumitra Bandyopadhyay, president TMC’s students’ wing Trinamool Chhatra Parishad(TMCP) in the Raniganj block, was caught on camera.
“I am giving you five minutes to send the Officer in Charge here. Otherwise I will blow up the police station,” he was heard saying in the video footage.
In the past, a number of TMC leaders including MP Tapas Paul, Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal have made remarks against the police and the Opposition resulting in widespread condemnation.
Mr. Bandyopadhyay issued the threat when police reached the campus after TMCP supporters’ gheraoed the principal of the Triveni Devi Bhalotia College. They alleged that the college authorities were harassing the students in the name of online admission.
In the wake of the incident TMCP suspended Mr. Bandyopadhyay for an indefinite period.
“We have suspended him for an indefinite period and also dissolved the TMCP block committee in Raniganj,” TMCP State president Ashok Rudra told The Hindu .
