Monday’s accident at the Durgapur Steel Plant has claimed one life.

Deepak Kumar Dalei succumbed to his burn injuries on Tuesday evening, a DSP official said.

He was one of the three employees who were injured when molten metal splashed on them at the plant while the casting was going on in the bloom caster around noon on Monday.

The employees -- Rohit Kumar, a junior manager aged 35 years, Ranjit Ghosh, a junior technician aged around 45 years and Deepak Kumar Dalei, a trainee attendant cum technician aged around 20 years -- sustained burn injuries and were being treated at the Mission Hospital.

The company said that as per the medical bulletin, “the vital parameters of the other two persons were within range with medication.”

The Chief Executive Officer of DSP, P. K. Singh and other senior officials visited the hospital. Compensation and family employment for the deceased is allowed as per the rules of the company, the official said in response to a query.
