Three employees of Durgapur Steel Plant were injured when molten steel at some 1400 degrees Celsius splashed on them at the plant.

DSP officials said that the accident happened when “a metal splash took place in the ladle meant for casting while the casting was going on in the bloom caster around noon on Monday”.

The employees -- Rohit Kumar, a junior manager aged 35 years; Ranjit Ghosh, a junior technician aged around 45 years and Deepak Kumar Dalei, a trainee attendant cum technician aged around 20 years, sustained burn injuries.

They were immediately rushed to the Mission Hospital and are being provided with medical treatment. The condition of one employee is serious but he is stable.

The matter is under investigation and has cast a pall of gloom on the celebratory mood brought on by the functions at the IISCO Steel Plant at Burnpur.
