Officials of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Friday conducted simultaneous searches on the premises of three Personal Security Officers of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi in connection with an alleged case of cheating and corruption.
According to a DVAC press release, P. Meena, wife of P. Pandian, Deputy Superintendent of Police attached to the Special Branch CID, C. Ganesan and C. Vinothan, both Inspectors of Police in the SBCID, had applied for allotment of Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB) plots at Mogappair under the Government Discretionary Quota (GDQ) on March 6, 2008.
By using their official influence as PSOs to the former Chief Minister, all the three got the allotted under GDQ on March 10, 2008. Even before getting the provisional allotment orders, they entered into joint venture agreement with private parties which was against the norms.
They obtained the cost of the plots from the private parties and settled dues to the TNHB, it said.
After making payment to the TNHB, the three sold the plots to the same party and got Rs. 19 lakh each. After registering a case under Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and IPC, the agency conducted searches on the premises of the officers, the release added.
