The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety will inspect Wimco Nagar depot and Tiruvottiyur Theradi stations in the Phase I extension project of Chennai Metro Rail Ltd. on Friday. Sources said the inspection, which will start around 9.30 a.m., could last four to five hours. “The work has been completed and hence we invited them for inspection. They will see what are the facilities available for passengers, if it is safe to use these two stations, how to handle in emergency situations and other issues. The CMRS is likely to give clearance within a few days post inspection,” a source said.

The Tiruvottiyur Theradi station, between Kaladipet and Tiruvottiyur stations, was left out from the inauguration last year when the 9 km phase I extension project linking Washermanpet and Wimco Nagar was opened since the station was not completed. Then, the officials made a decision to add facilities in the Wimco Nagar depot and include it as a station.

The CMRS will give a safety certificate if they are satisfied with the facilities and after that the CMRL will open the stations by the end of this month or early next month, the officials said.
