After being blank for a couple of months, the display boards at the Chennai Central Railway station have finally bounced back to life. The old ones have been replaced and commuters are happy that the new boards have bigger display.

Around 200 trains depart and arrive at the Chennai Central Railway Station. As the display boards were not working for the past many months, thousands of passengers were finding it difficult to know the platforms at which various trains were arriving. “We had to ask the Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel for help as the display board near platform 3, 4, 5 and one adjacent to 10 has been out of order since January. All we need is information on the platform number from which a certain train is departure and arrival and the time. More advertisements are played on the LCD than relevant information,” said M. Kishore, who travels frequently by Pinakini Express.

Railway officials had promised that new board will be placed by the end of May. “We installed them on May 31, said S. Anantharaman, Divisional Railway Manager, Chennai Division, Southern Railway. Passengers say that the new boards have more clarity. “I could see the train and platform from a distance. They are very helpful,” said S. Murthy, from New Delhi who arrived at Chennai Central Railway Station a few days back.
