Residents on the warpath against official apathy in suburbs

Residents of Raghava Nagar, Moovarasanpet staged a protest against inaccessible roads and what they termed official apathy in addressing the problems arising from flooding.

They marched up to Medavakkam Main Road near Madipakkam, where police officials pacified them, sources said.

Residents of Mahalakshmi Nagar, Adambakkam, gheraoed Chennai Corporation officials on Brindavan Nagar Main Road.

Residents of Bharathiyar First and Second Streets in Pazhavanthangal protested the release of water into stormwater drains in their locality.

District administration officials were on their toes in arranging shelters for evacuees and helping them get proper food.

The Kancheepuram district administration has arranged for 26 shelters for 7,694 residents evacuated from various villages.
