The K.K. Nagar police on Sunday arrested three persons for robbing a man of ₹11,000.

Sreekumar booked a two-wheeler ride to his house in K.K. Nagar on Friday, from his office in MEPZ, Santorium. Instead of a motorcycle or a scooter, it was a car that arrived to pick him up.

He was literally taken for a ride, as the car driver and two men, who were already in the car, robbed him of ₹11,000 .

Based on a complaint filed by the victim, the K.K. Nagar police have filed a case of robbery. A senior police officer of T. Nagar district said V. Sreekumar, a resident of 8th Sector in K.K. Nagar, had booked a ride on a two-wheeler app on Friday to visit a shopping mall in Vadapalani. However, he was surprised to see a car arrive to pick him from work.

When he told the car driver that he had only booked a two-wheeler, the driver informed him that the car was provided since it was raining. Two persons were already in the car. As the car was proceeding towards Guindy, the co-passengers suddenly hit Mr. Sreekumar and took away ₹11,000, that he was carrying.

The three stripped the victim, took photos of him and threatened to post them on social media if he did not give them ₹50,000. They then left him near the Guindy Industrial Estate. The victim went to the Guindy police station, where police officials advised him to file a complaint with the K.K. Nagar police.

Based on the footage of a closed circuit television camera located in Guindy, the police identified the three offenders as

Thamizhselvan, Manikandan and Saravanan.

The trio was nabbed and the vehicle used for committing the crime has been seized.
