IIRSI Chennai 2019 inaugurated

The annual conference of the Intraocular Implant and Refractive Society of India (IIRSI) Chennai 2019 was inaugurated by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Saturday.

Over 4,000 ophthalmologists from across the world took part in the event. The IIRSI 2019 will witness the “Ophthalmic Premier League”, where participants will showcase their most challenging cataract cases through videos. “A film festival and live surgery are among programs that are part of the conference,” said Amar Agarwal, secretary general, IIRSI.

Ashvin Agarwal, chief of clinical services, Dr. Agarwals Eye Hospital, said: “We have an event called the hands on wetlab course, where young surgeons can carry out surgical procedures using animal eyes,” he said.

Dr. Mohan Rajan, former president, IIRSI, said latest techniques would be showcased. Marjan Farid, opthamologist from the U.S., said the meeting was a place to exchange ideas. Health Minister C. Vijaya Baskar took part.
