In order to improve the pharmaceuticals industry in the State, the Indian Drug Manufacturers’ Association has asked the government to frame a pharmaceutical policy. “Along with biotech and IT, drug manufacturing is also a thrust industry, but it is the only one without a separate policy,” M. Rajarathinam, State chairman for the association said recently.

“Karnataka framed its policy in 2012, and has given the pharma industry 33 different concessions. We are asking the government for an equivalent policy,” he added.

The association is also planning a two-day exhibition on July 3 and 4 at Chennai Trade Centre to showcase the innovations, formulations and healthcare products of the pharmaceutical industry in South India, according to president of the association, S. V. Veerramani.
