Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) leader Vijayakant on Sunday claimed that the Global Investors Meet (GIM) was nothing but last-ditch attempt by the State government to make up for its failures of four-and-half-years.

“People of Tamil Nadu want to know what the State government was doing all these years. The claim that the meet will bring in over lakh crore investment is unrealistic,” Mr Vijayakant said. He also wondered how the State government would be able to bring in more investment when it could not retain industries.

“The meet is organised only for publicity. If the government is really interested in attracting industrial investment, it should have organised the meet long time ago. Now the conference will serve no purpose,” Dr Ramadoss said in a statement.

Dr. Ramadoss said absence of proper infrastructure and transparent industrial policy had led to applications seeking permission to launch industries were gathering dust. “Already companies like Nokia ad Foxcom have exited Tamil Nadu,” he pointed out.
