1,278 students wrote exam in Tamil Nadu which recorded 99.3% pass percentage

Simran Avinash Somalinga, a Class XII student of Sishya School here secured a place on the All India merit list in the Indian School Certificate (ISC) examination results announced on Monday.

Having taken up Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English and Biology, Simran scored 99% and is among 48 students who have secured high scores.

“It took a lot of hard work and focus through the year,” said Simran, who is also a dancer and has been learning western dance for a long time now. “I realised that it was extremely important to keep a cool head. For students taking up the boards next year, it is important that they not take any pressure and work under their best beliefs,” added Simran, who is aspiring to study Bio-engineering.

The students who had taken up the ISC exams are the first to receive their Class XII board exam results in Tamil Nadu. While the State board Plus XII results are to be announced on May 16, CBSE board exams results are expected to be announced later this month.

Tamil Nadu recorded a pass percentage of 99.3% in the ISC Class XII exams and 1,278 candidates had appeared for the exam. While the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) examination results too were declared on Monday, girls from the State had performed better than boys scoring higher pass percentages.

Southern region shines

In region-wise analysis as well, the southern region has the highest pass percentages with 99.69% in the ICSE exams and 98.38% in the ISC exams. The number schools where students wrote the ISC examinations in Class XII too had increased from last year, indicating that more students chose to continue in the same board after Class XI.

While 2017 had 912 candidates appearing for the ISC exams from 35 schools, this year had 1,278 students take up the exam from 43 schools.

Sarayu Ganesan, vice-principal of Chettinad Hari Shree Vidyalayam, Chennai, said that it was important to create a relaxed atmosphere for both the students and teachers.

“The parents and students are generally under a fair bit of pressure and as teachers, we try to ensure that the students are calm because they need to learn well and not just study with the thoughts of exams,” she said. The school had a 100% pass percentage in the board exams.
