Passengers on the Chennai Metro struggled once again on Tuesday monring as the train’s direct service from Chennai Central to Chennai airport stopped due to a technical glitch.

According to officials of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), technical issues had emerged on Monday night, which initially disrupted, and later led to stoppage of services. Passengers were also inconvenienced as the journey took much longer than usual, with trains stopping for five minutes in each station.

Disruption in services continued on Tuesday morning as direct services from Chennai Central to Chennai airport were stopped. However, services from Washermanpet to Chennai airport via AGDMS and Chennai Central to St. Thomas Mount continued to ply. “We are trying to find what caused these glitches and it will be resolved in an hour,” an official said.

Several staff of Chennai Metro went on a protest on Monday against the privatisation of a section of operations. They also protested over the dismissal of eight of the staff, including station controllers and technicians.
