Campaigning ends, Jayalalithaa stays away

Over a month-long electioneering in Tamil Nadu concluded on Saturday, with leaders giving the last-minute push to cover the missed ground. The glaring exception though was AIADMK general secretary and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, who stayed away from campaigning on the final day.

DMK president M. Karunanidhi finished his campaign in Chepauk in the cityAIADMK circles were silent on the reasons for Ms. Jayalalithaa’s absence. However, she released a statement urging people to back her party again.

As per Election Commission norms, parties wound up their field activity at 6 pm.
