Buyers confused by dates on Aavin packs

They say the ‘use by’ date which is supposed to be stamped on packets is often not visible

Aavin milk consumers are yet again complaining that the ‘use by’ date that is supposed to be stamped on milk sachets is either smudged or absent. B.V. Saravanan of Rajakilpakkam said that he found it hard to decipher the information on the sachets. Of the two sachets he checked on Monday, one was tough to read and he couldn’t see any date on the other, he added.

S. Srimathi of Chromepet got two sachets on Sunday and one of them, which had May 21 stamped on it, had gone bad, she said.

She said that she had drawn the attention of Aavin’s customer care cell to the incident, but was yet to hear from them.

Aavin has a 24-hour complaint cell handled by officials who maintain a register of complaints and ensure smooth distribution of milk. “Complaints can be registered by calling our toll-free telephone number, 1800-425-3300,” a senior Aavin official said. “Complaints are addressed by the 24-hour consumer care and support cell located at Nandanam and by our 24 zonal marketing offices,” said an Aavin official.

“Aavin has floated tenders for digital printing on milk sachets. Once digital printing begins, these kinds of omissions will not occur,” an official said.
