A park with a walker’s pathway and a boat house at Pallikaranai is set to be under consideration by the Environment Department, says State Environment Minister K.C. Karupannan. Along with officials of Environment and Forest Department, he surveyed the land inside the marshland on Wednesday. A sum of ₹20 crore would be allocated for creating the facility, the minister said and added that additional funds would be allocated after the plan gets sanctioned.
Tests would be conducted to check for the possibility of setting up an energy-from-waste project to reduce the waste dumped in a part of the Marsh, the Minister said. Later in the day, the Minister reviewed the work undertaken by the Forest Department in Pallikaranai and Nanmangalam Reserve Forests. Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Department, H. Malleshappa, PCCF and Chief Wildlife Warden, T.P. Raghunath, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), Sanjay Srivatsava and Chief Conservator of Forests (Chennai Circle) V. Karunapriya participated.
