Work to widen Dams Road begins

A park with walkways and seating facilities being developed by the Chennai Corporation on Langs Garden Road, Pudupet, will be opened within a month, according to Mayor M. Subramanian.

He was speaking at a function organised on Thursday to launch the work to widen Dams Road by two metres, construct four bus shelters and develop a park. The Corporation is spending Rs.1.20 crore on the park in Pudupet, the Mayor said, adding that a new park near the new Secretariat was also nearing completion.

The work to widen Dam's Road is expected to be completed within four months and would cost Rs.1.45 crore. Union Minister for Textiles Dayanidhi Maran under his Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme is providing funds for the project.

Mr. Maran, who laid the foundation stone for the project, said that widening of Dams Road was a necessity with the growing traffic.

Corporation Commissioner Rajesh Lakhoni, Deputy Mayor R. Sathyabhama, ruling party leader N. Ramalingam and Leader of the Opposition in the Corporation Council Saidai P.Ravi were present.
