The mortal remains of Congress Legislature party leader D.Sudarssanam will be cremated in Chennai on Monday. His body was brought to his house here on Sunday and it will be placed for public to pay homage till Monday.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Union Health Minister and AICC General Secretary in charge of Tamil Nadu, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Governor Surjit Singh Barnala, All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Jayalalithaa, and Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K.V.Thangkabalu condoled his death.
According to the TNCC spokesperson, the party would observe a three-day mourning and the party flags would fly in half mast. All party functions stand cancelled during the mourning period.
In his condolence message, Chief Minister Karunanidhi said ‘it is unfortunate that the death of Sudarssanam occurred during the ongoing World Classical Tamil Conference.' In his death, Tamil Nadu had lost a great social worker, Mr. Karunanidhi added.
Union Shipping Minister G.K.Vasan, Mr.Thangkabalu, PMK leader S.Ramadoss and PMK president G.K.Mani were among those who placed wreaths on his body.
Affectionately called “Naina” by his friends and party workers, Sudarssanam was the treasurer of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee to which post he had held for a long time. He was also the founder- chairman of the S.A. Engineering College, Avadi.
