The Russian Centre of Science and Culture and the Indo-Russian Cultural and Friendship Society on Tuesday organised a meeting in commemoration of the 65th anniversary of victory over fascism.
Speaking at the function, Consul-General of the Russian Federation in Southern India Nikolay A.Listopadov said, “We appreciate the contribution of Indians to the victory over fascism. We will continue the friendship.”
Mr.Listopadov said that he had already managed to feel the warmth and friendliness of the people of Chennai in a short period of two months.
Founder-chairman of Indo-Russian Cultural and Friendship Society and writer D. Jayakandhan stressed the need for commemoration of such events .
General Secretary of Dravidar Kazhagam K.Veeramani said the Tamil Nadu's soil had the potential to foster Indo-Russian friendship. The tree planted on the premises of the Russian Centre of Science and Culture as a mark of friendship between the two nations would be an indicator, he said. A photo exhibition on the World War II was also inaugurated.
