Thieves broke into the house of a retired sub-inspector at CKM Colony near Madhavaram a few days ago and took away nearly 50 sovereigns of gold jewellery. The crime came to light on Thursday.

Sarala, a retired sub-inspector, and her husband Vijayan, had gone to Kerala to attend a wedding.

When they returned on Thursday, they found the main door of their house open.

Nearly 50 sovereigns of gold jewellery had been missing from the house.

A case has been registered by the Madhavaram Milk Colony police. The police are scrutinising CCTV footage from the locality to nab the suspects.
