Two brothers, aged 10 and 11, drowned in Konasandra lake at Kengeri on Friday afternoon. The deceased are Yasin, a class six student, and Rizwan, a class five student. They lived in Gangondanahalli, Chandra Layout, said the police, who were alerted of the incident by locals.

The brothers had gone to the lake along with four other friends. Witnesses told the police that the brothers, who did not know how to swim, entered the lake to play with their friends. As they were pulled deeper into the water, they started shouting for help. Their friends alerted locals in the area, who rushed to rescue the boys.

“But by the time they were pulled to the bank of the lake, it was too late. The two boys are the only children of a couple who work as a security guard and a domestic help in the city,” said the police.

A senior police official said, “The lake was not fenced and there were no barricades to prevent people from entering it.”
