Scotching rumours being circulated on social media, the Public Works Department (PWD) clarified that the bridge built across the Kapila in T. Narsipura was fit for traffic.
A statement issued by the PWD’s National Highways Division said that a team of senior officials led by the Chief Engineer of National Highways had conducted an inspection of the bridge on August 12. During the inspection, it was found that the strip seal expansion joint on the third pillar of the bridge had become compressed. Necessary directions had been issued to the concerned officials for repairing the compression in the strip seal expansion joint immediately. “There is no problem for vehicular movement on the bridge,” the statement said.
The statement was issued in the wake of rumours on social media about the condition of the bridge. It appeals to people not to be misled by false rumours.
Meanwhile, the discharge of water from Kabini reservoir into the Kapila on Sunday was brought down to the rate of 45,000 cusecs from more than 80,000 cusecs on Friday.
