Post-mortem report is expected on Wednesday

Three special teams have been formed to investigate the murder of journalist and activist Gauri Lankesh.

Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy, who visited the spot, said that Ms. Lankesh had called him last Saturday, before he was given the Home portfolio, seeking an appointment. “A meeting was scheduled on Monday. However, she did not turn up. She was in touch with DG&IGP R. K. Dutta too, but never spoke about receiving any threats,” Mr. Reddy said.

“Though there is a similarity with the murder of M.M. Kalburgi, it is too early to draw conclusions,” he added.

Gauri Lankesh was in her office till 7.30 p.m., working on the Deepavali special edition of Gauri Lankesh, before leaving in her car for her home where she was shot.

Ballistic experts from FSL arrived at the site to analyse the type of weapons used. Police Commissioner T. Suneel Kumar, who is supervising the investigation, said that a clearer picture will emerge after the post-mortem report, which is expected on Wednesday. “We are going through CCTV footage. One team is analysing calls received for clues on the identity of the assailants,” said a senior police officer.

The policy have set up nakabandis at all entry and exit points of the city.
