Business ideas came from much beyond the famed campus of the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIMB), for second-year students of the flagship Postgraduate Programme (PGP).
As many as 120 students, who had opted for the newly introduced ‘Business planning in international market’ course, are back in the city after travelling abroad in batches of 40.
The first batch of students pursuing the course toured Dubai, Singapore and Japan in December. Besides learning about the work culture abroad, each batch of students has picked up business ideas from the country it has visited.
‘A new concept’For Shashank Sabesan who travelled to Dubai, Islamic finance was a new concept he learnt.
“I did not know that interest is not charged on the money borrowed in Dubai because they follow Islamic finance. What was most noticeable there was their fascination for grandeur and for being number one,” he said.
The business proposals that the students are contemplating on low-cost housing and offering skill-based training for the thriving real estate and tourism sectors.
On sense of timeLeela Krishna Annam, who was one of those who visited Japan, said: “Each day, we met management executives who spoke to us about the uniqueness of their market. The Japanese executives also explained to us that they see the infrastructural inadequacies in India as an opportunity. They pointed out that the sense of time is different in India,” he said.
