Sri Lankan arrested at KIA

He had a valid Indian passport

Immigration officials on Sunday arrested a 35-year-old Sri Lankan who landed in Kempegowda International Airport from Ukraine with a valid Indian passport.

The accused is on the run from authorities in Sri Lanka. He was travelling on a fake name — Joel Nirushan Samuel. According to officials, his name is Irisaha Trinty Perera. He managed to forge documents while in India and using those documents, he went to Ukraine.

T. Vijay, an immigration official, checked his documents at KIA. He found them suspicious and detained the suspect for questioning. During questioning, Perera claimed to possess Sri Lankan ID and passport, but got an Indian passport using forged documents with a fake name and date of birth.

The accused has been booked under various sections of the Passport Act and Foreigners Act. He was remanded in judicial custody. Sri Lankan officials concerned were alerted about his arrest, a senior police officer said.
