This Cancer Survivors’ Day — observed on the first Sunday of June every year — will throw open a unique platform called ‘Self V — film festival for cancer survivors.

The celebration, being jointly organised by HCG Cancer Care network and Pink Hope (a cancer support group), will run for a period of 45 days. To participate, cancer survivors will have to take a self-video of up to 60 seconds’ duration, capturing the story of their struggle and conquest over cancer, and upload it on Facebook.com/HCGHospitals. The videos will be judged by a jury from the film fraternity. The best ones will be selected for the Self V — film festival, which will be showcased across multiplexes in the city, said G. Kilara, Director of HCG-M.S. Ramaiah Cancer Centre. He said it was aimed at spreading awareness about the disease and conveying the message that it is curable. Roopa Venkatesh, a survivor, said these stories can bring hope to many patients fighting cancer and break the stigma attached to the disease. Logon to www.selfv.in
