A 45-year-old priest committed suicide by setting himself ablaze inside his car in BDA Park in Kumbalgodu on Mysore Road on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Shivashankar Hebbar, a resident of Kengeri working for Shani Mahatma Temple in Amma Asharam Road.

Hebbar took his car to the BDA Park ground, poured petrol and set himself on fire. Passers-by who noticed the car, informed police who alerted fire and emergency services. The fire and emergency services rushed to the spot and put out the fire before shifting Hebbar to the Hospital where the doctors declared him as brought dead.

The Kumbalgodu police have taken up a case and suspect family feud as the reason behind the suicide. They are investigating further to ascertain the cause. Hebbar is survived by his wife and a son, the police said.
