The break-in at the vice chancellor’s chamber at Bangalore University on Sunday has left authorities and cops flummoxed, as no valuables were stolen. The possible motive has left cops and authorities to look within the University. Authorities, who checked all documents in the chamber, have reported that none of the documents, including sensitive documents of cash-for-marks scam and corruption in post graduate admissions, were found intact.

However, the culprits took care to destroy evidence. They broke open the window, climbed into the room using a rope and opened the chamber’s door from within. The room was ransacked. They later burnt the rope.

The VC, Thimme Gowda, suspects an inside job but said even he is at a loss about the motive. He added that they are considering installing CC TV cameras in the chamber as a security measure.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (central) Sandeep Patil on Tuesday inspected the chamber and confirmed forceful entry. He said the probe would progress after police received a list of missing documents from the chamber. Police suspect that it could have been a case of the culprits looking for something but failing to find it.
