The Mysore Road-Magadi Road stretch of Namma Metro, which was scheduled to begin operations in September, has been delayed yet again, with officials now hoping to launch the stretch in October.
A 6.4-km stretch, which has been ready for the past two years, saw trials begin earlier this year in March, with a successful run between Magadi Road and Mysore road stations at a speed of 25 kmph, with 40 officials on board. It was then slated to launch in June.
However, the application for safety clearance was made only in late August and was issued recently by the Commissioner for Railway Safety (CRS). The safety clearance had also taken a longer than expected as the CRS was caught up in investigating two train accidents.
Once operational, the reach will help link Hosahalli, Attiguppe, Vijayanagar with Mysore Road, and is expected to benefit several factory workers who are employed on that stretch.
“There are a few more formalities to be cleared. We are working on them. The target is an October launch. We will disclose the exact dates once all formalities are complete,” Managing Director of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Pradeep Singh Kharola told The Hindu .
