The Karnataka High Court on Monday granted time till Friday to the Advocate-General to inform it of deliberations between the Chief Minister and the Governor on the action to be initiated against some of the members of the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC), following allegations of irregularities in the selection of candidates in the 2011 batch posts of gazetted probationers.
This was after the submissions made by A-G Ravivarma Kumar before a Division Bench comprising acting Chief Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee and Justice B.V. Nagarathna during the hearing of a PIL petition filed by one Abraham T.J.
The PIL had questioned the conduct of the preliminary exam by the same body of the KPSC that has members facing allegations. The government pointed out that the petition had become infructuous as the preliminary exam was already held in April, and sought time to inform the court on deliberations between the CM and the Governor.
Hospitals
In another case, the Bench on Monday ordered issue of notice to the State government on a PIL petition, which has questioned increase in licence fee for private hospitals.
In its PIL petition, the Indian Medical Association’s Hubballi branch, had pointed out that the medical profession is not a trade or a liberal profession, and is similar to that of lawyers and architects. It was contended in the petition that insisting on licence fee for persons who manage hospitals and clinics is discrimination between professionals.
