Citizens whose names are not in the voters’ list can enrol till July 15 and vote in the July 28 polls.
State Election Commissioner P.N. Sreenivasachary on Thursday said, “The names that have been submitted till June 15 have been added to the list. Citizens can go to the local ward office and submit Form 6 to enrol. Though they may not get the voter’s ID, they can use any other identity proof and vote.”
To improve voter turnout, which has not crossed 45 per cent, the SEC is chalking out awareness programmes. The turnout in the 2010 elections was 43 per cent. Mr. Sreenivasachary called upon civil society to create awareness about exercising their franchise.
Mr. Sreenivasachary said poll expenditure will be around Rs. 20 crore and the SEC had already released Rs. 12 crore to the BBMP for the same.
