Karnataka High Court on Wednesday adjourned for two weeks hearing on a criminal petition filed by Katta Jagadish, corporator and son of former minister Katta Subramanya Naidu, seeking quashing of FIR filed against him by Lokayukta police for his alleged involvement in a land scam.
When the petition filed by him came up for hearing before Justice A S Bopanna, the prosecution pointed out that the chargesheet had already been filed and summons issued to the accused.
They sought two weeks time to file its objections to which the court agreed.
Jagadish had filed a criminal petition last year, seeking quashing of FIR against him for alleged irregularities in allotment of Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board.
The court stayed investigation against Jagadish in Oct 2010.
Months after Lokayukta police sought a lift on the stay, the High Court finally lifted it after which the chargesheet was filed on July 8 and summons issued to the accused.
Mr. Naidu, a senior BJP leader, resigned as Minister from the B S Yeddyurappa cabinet in December last year, after Lokayukta filed an FIR against him and nine others.
The FIR pointed to irregularities in allotment of 385 acres to ITASCA Software Company, floated by an aide of Mr. Naidu.
For allotment of land and obtaining consent of farmers, most of whom were family members and associates of Mr. Naidu and his son Jagadish, illegal gratification of Rs 87 crore was allegedly paid to a benami company of Mr. Naidu and Jagadish, it said.
Charges such as forgery, cheating, benami transactions, creating false documents and creating fictitious firms had been made out against the accused in the FIR.
