Home Minister K.J. George defended the State Cabinet’s decision to withdraw cases filed against persons who were allegedly involved in the communal violence in Mysuru, Shivamogga and Hassan districts.
Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, he said, “It is not for the first time that the government had withdrawn cases pertaining to some organisations or people.”
Rebutting the opposition BJP’s charges that the government went ahead with its decision against the advise of the Law or Home Department, he said, “it was taken following a recommendations of a Cabinet sub-committee.”
The Cabinet had withdrawn over 175 cases filed against over 1,000 persons belonging to the Karnataka Forum for Dignity and the Popular Front of India and others, when the BJP was in power.
