Speculation is rife on whether or not a Kannada-Tamil bi-lingual film being directed by A.M.R. Ramesh – Game in Kannada and Oru Melliya Kodu in Tamil – is based on the life of Sunanda Pushkar, wife of the former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor, who died under mysterious circumstances.
The rumour mill has been grinding after actor-turned-politician Khushboo sought a clarification from Ramesh and the latter refused to divulge the story to her.
When the production team contacted Kushboo for a role in the film, the actor reportedly sought to know whether it was based on Ms. Pushkar’s life. Sources in the film industry have started linking Game with Pushkar, considering that a part of the film is set in a forensic lab in Chennai. Manisha Koirala plays a Kashmiri girl in the film. Even during the film shoot in Bengaluru, Mr. Ramesh refused to divulge the storyline. “It is a murder mystery. Manisha gets murdered in the film and Arjun investigates this complicated case,” he said. This is the first time Ms. Koirala is acting in a Kannada film.
Referring to the problem he faced during the release of Attahasa , based on the life of sandalwood smuggler Veerappan; Ramesh said did not want to court legal complications by revealing the plot. “I had to shell out Rs. 25 lakh because somebody leaked the plot,” he explained.
