The Forum of Former Vice-Chancellors of the Karnataka State University has opined that the Vice-Chancellor post be filled through nomination instead of inviting applications.

The successor should be selected before the incumbent retires, the forum said. M. Mahadevappa, former VC, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, said that inviting applications for the post is against the tradition.

To discuss these issues, the Forum is holding a one-day workshop on ‘The Modalities of selection of Vice-Chancellors for the Universities in Karnataka’ on May 2 on its premises. Over 120 participants, including policy makers and officials from government departments, will attend. Former Chief Justice of India S. Rajendra Babu will inaugurate the workshop.
